Hello everyone - I thought I would come and get your opinion on something as my head is spinning looking on google. I have got myself a lot of material and felt to make christmas decorations and lavender bags and as I don't have a sewing machine (don't really have the room or the pennies) I wondered about getting myself one of the wee hand held ones just to scoot around them for the stiching (before I do the blanket stitch on the felt ones) - but then one of my friends said to scoot round with fabric glue instead - so my questions to you are - 1 - will fabric glue be strong enough to hold the felt bits together and will it not make it hard? 2 - if fabric glue is ok what is the best one for strength and durability on felt and cotton? 3 - how do you rate the wee hand held sewing machines and do you have a preference/experience of what make is best 4 - would it be better just to abandon the machine and glue to just sew by hand (which will be much slower and not as easy with with rheumatoid arthritis) Thanks for your opinions in advance hugs |

you can buy wonder web it sticks 2 sides down kinda like the stuff for doing hems not used in years so not sure if be hard at seams
only used fabric glue on gems if you have a local material shop they would be helpful
those wee machines friend had one and said it was great she made a pair of curtains for her bathroom on it. For small items like lavender bags thats what she got it for it was great |

Eileen I have 2 of these wee sewing machines, 1 I use for stitching on cards and it is a great wee machine, the other one is an interlocker machine which uses 3 strands of thread but can make decorative edges if you use contrasting colours of thread. Generally glue sets hard and inflexible so I would not recommend it for material for your lavender bags but it would be good for your Christmas decorations. |

It helps when you have used those machines just looked at my fabric glue and yes good for ornaments but not seams |

Wonder web will work as it is stiff rather than hard, but it could be fiddly cutting it thin enough and then ironing the narrow area to set it. |

Thank you all I'm going off now to have a wee look at handheld sewing machines - I think that will be the best way forward for me. I agree that glue for gems etc is great but just wasn't sure about using it with material. Bye for now....see you all later |
